Welcome!
Did you know that you can apply for a U.S. passport at the Office of
the Treasurer & Tax Collector? Since we began offering this service
in 1999, our office has processed from 10,000 - 12,000 non-emergency
applications per year, ranking it as the highest volume passport center
in the Bay Area region. The Office of the San Francisco Treasurer &
Tax Collector is the ideal place to apply for your passport. Available
40 hours per week - the longest operating hours in the Bay Area - our
courteous, well-trained, and highly efficient staff will process your
application and address any questions or concerns you may have.
Applying for a U.S. Passport at our Office:
The Office of the Treasurer & Tax Collector in San Francisco is
an authorized U.S. passport acceptance facility. A passport acceptance
facility is an office that is federally authorized to accept passport
applications for review and processing by the Department of State. In
this role, our office is responsible for verifying the identity of
passport applicants, ensuring that all of the required documentation is
submitted, and accepting payment for the passport and related fees.
When applying at our acceptance office, it is important to note the following:
Receiving your Passport:
Your actual passport is not produced in our office. Your application
and materials, once executed (processed) by our staff, are submitted to
the U.S. Department of State for approval and issuance. Once approved,
the passport is produced and then mailed directly to the applicant by
one of various federal passport agency centers.
Payment Methods:
There are no additional fees charged when applying at an
acceptance office. However, when you apply for your passport at an
acceptance office, the standard fees are split into two separate
payments - the "passport fee" and the "execution fee" ($25 per
application, effective February, 2008).
- The main "passport fee" will be attached to the application by
our staff and forwarded to the U.S. Department State. For this reason, we
can only accept this payment in the form of check, money order or other
bank draft (made out to "U.S. Dept. of State"). Neither cash nor credit
or debit cards can be used at this acceptance office to pay this part
of the fee.
- The "execution fee", however, is paid directly to the acceptance
facility at which you are applying. Here at the Office of the Treasurer
& Tax Collector, we can accept cash, check, money order, or other
bank drafts (made out to "S.F. Tax Collector").
Loation & Office Hours:
Our office is open Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) from 8
a.m. to 4 p.m. We are located in City Hall, Room 140, 1 Dr. Carlton B.
Goodlett Place, San Francisco, CA 94102. If you have any questions,
