The term “unsecured” simply refers to property that is not secured real estate
such as a house or parcel of land which is currently owned. In general,
unsecured property tax is either for business personal property
(office equipment, owned or leased), boats, berths, or possessory interest for

We recommend that you pay your property taxes early to avoid unnecessary late penalties and fees. Convenience fees do apply.

 

Important information about payments

Payment Deadlines:

Online payments received by 11:59pm on their delinquency deadline dates, or made in person by the close of business on the delinquency deadline date are considered on time. Payments made by mail postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service on or before the delinquency deadline date are considered on time. If the delinquency deadline falls on a weekend or legal holiday, the adjusted deadline to pay without incurring late penalties and fees will be within the same timeframes on the next business day.

Service Fees:

A service fee is charged for paying your property taxes online using a debit or credit card. Please note that the service is a third-party fee and is not part of city funds.

Payments can be made online using a credit card, debit card, or electronic check (eCheck)

For credit card payments (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover) the service fee is 2.35% ($2.49 minimum) of the total tax.

For debit card payments the service fee is 2.35% ($2.49 minimum) of the total tax. 

For qualifying E-check payments there is NO SERVICE FEE

Unsecured Property Tax (UPP) Information

UPP tax may be for business personal property (office equipment, owned or leased), boats, berths, or possessory interest; unsecured supplemental property tax is paid for tax assessments based on prior ownership of secured property. To use this service, you must know the Assessment number for your particular bill. Please note that every UPP tax bill has a unique assessment number. This means that if you're trying to pay multiple tax bills, you'll need to enter the information one tax bill at a time. Mailing Payments:

Checks and money orders should be made payable to "SF Tax Collector" and should include the assessment number on them. The canceled check or money order stub serves as the receipt. Do not send cash. Mail payments to:
