Request for Extension to File Annual Business Tax Return

To qualify for a 60-day extension to file your 2018 Annual Business Tax Return, you must complete and submit this request AND pay 100% of your 2018 Annual Business Tax (Gross Receipts Tax and Payroll Expense Tax) liability on or before February 28, 2019. If you do not make the required 100% payment by February 28, 2019 or you do not file your 2018 Annual Business Tax Return on or before April 29, 2019 your request will be automatically denied and you will be subject to penalties, interest, and other fees.

The 2/28/2019 deadline for filing and payment has passed. The annual business tax return is under maintenance and will be available on Thursday, March 7, 2019

Request for Extension Instructions

Use your San Francisco Business Activity (Code Section) and the Taxable Gross Receipts Worksheets to determine your SF Gross Receipts Tax obligation..

Use the 2018 Payroll Expense Tax Rate of 0.380% to calculate your Payroll Expense Tax obligation.

  1. Log in and look for a table with your Business Name, Business Account Number and Mailing Address.
  2. Enter your 2018 San Francisco Payroll Expense Tax and Gross Receipts Tax amounts in the two fields respectively. Use your San Francisco Business Activity (Code Section) and the Taxable Gross Receipts Worksheets to calculate your SF Gross Receipts Tax. Use the 2018 Payroll Expense Tax Rate of 0.380% to calculate your Payroll Expense Tax obligation. Note: Check the box and submit a zero amount if you have already paid 100% of your 2018 payroll expense tax and gross receipts tax obligation with your quarterly installments.
  3. The form will display the total amount to be paid. Select “Save & Continue.”
  4. You will be taken to a Taxpayer Statement page. Enter your name, title, phone number, and email. If you are filing on behalf of a taxpayer enter your company name as well. Select “Submit.”
  5. Once the extension request is submitted you will see a confirmation screen. Select “Continue” to access payment options, download a copy of the extension request, or email the extension request to another address. Select “Payment Options” to access the payment screen.
  6. On this page you will see a table with tax types, tax year and period, name, street address, bill number, amount due, and amount to pay.
  7. Check the box “Select to Pay” on the row(s) that show your extension payment. Look for Payroll Expense and/or Gross Receipts for the Tax Year / Period of 2018/04.
  8. Select your method of payment among the options at the bottom of the page to pay.
  9. Payment for your extension request must be received by February 28, 2018.
  10. Once your extension request is submmited you'll receive a confirmation letter from our office to the mailing address on record. Our office will also mail you a letter once the Request for Extenstion is apporived or denied. If the request is denied penalites, interest, and fees will accrue until the obligation is paid in full.
