Living Wage for Educators Act (LWEA)

San Francisco voters approved the Living Wage for Educators Act (LWEA) in June 2018.

LWEA is a new parcel tax that will provide critical funds for our city's teachers.

The parcel tax will be:

  1. Levied at a rate of $298 per year and adjusted for inflation annually
  2. Collected annually through the secured property tax bill, in two installment payments
  3. Levied from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2038

If you received a senior citizen exemption from the Quality Teacher Education Act (QTEA) parcel tax and/or School Facilities Special Tax for the 2017-18 tax year, you will automatically receive a senior citizen exemption(s) from LWEA on your 2018-19 property tax bills.  You do not need to take any action unless you have sold, transferred, or moved out of your property in the last 12 months.  For senior exemption questions please contact the SFUSD exemption office at SeniorExemption@sfusd.edu or visit at http://www.sfusd.edu/en/about-sfusd/voter-initiatives/senior-citizen-exemption.html.
