Additional Information

If you have completed the 2020-21 renewal filing, you should have received a bill for the 2021-22 registration fee by September 30, 2021.  If we need additional information in order to bill you for the 2021-2022 Business Registration Renewal, we will notify you using the email or mailing address on file.

Business Registration Fees are based on San Francisco gross receipts or payroll expense for the current calendar year, and the business activity types selected. Use Schedule B if your business consists solely of the business activities of Certain Services (e.g. Repair/Maintenance, Personal/Laundry, Civic Orgs), Retail Trade, and/or Wholesale Trade (described on page 1 of the Application).  If your business does anything else, use Schedule A.

Your 2021-2022 registration fee will be calculated using your 2020 gross receipts

Because of the many COVID-19 deadline deferrals, the 2020-21 registration renewal filing wasn’t due until April 30, 2021 (it was originally due May 31, 2020). By the time the filing was due, businesses were able to report their 2019 AND 2020 gross receipts at the same time. We built a form for the 2020-21 registration renewal that collected the information for both renewals so that most businesses wouldn’t need to complete another form for the 2021-22 registration renewal.

Some businesses renewed before the form was updated to include the question about 2020 gross receipts. Some businesses did not renew for 2020-21. In either case, in order to renew for 2021-22, all businesses need to follow the specific instructions received from our office. We will use the information you provide to determine your 2021-22 business registration fee and send you a bill.

You will need the following information to complete the 2020-21 renewal, which will also be used to calculate the business registration fee for 2021-22:

  • Your 2019 and 2020 taxable San Francisco gross receipts (your 2020 gross receipts will be used to calculate 2021-22 registration fee)
  • Your 2019 San Francisco payroll expense
  • The business activities that describe your business
  • Average number of employees per week
